From Vineyards to Ocean Breezes:

This past week, we took The Mushroom Bus further up California’s stunning coast, from Solvang to Big Sur. As always, the road had surprises in store, but that’s all part of the adventure!

Our original plan? Cruise up Highway 1 to Big Sur. Reality check? A landslide had other plans! Instead, we took the only other option up the coast, Highway 5. Making time for Pismo Beach & Morro Rock!

Detours Worth Taking

First up: Pismo Beach. We explored the shoreline, stumbled upon some Pismo Clams, and soaked in the salty breeze before heading to Morro Rock for more exploring and a much-needed lunch break.

Big Sur: The Big South

At sunrise, we headed straight for the heart of Big Sur, stopping at Bird Island and Whale Peak, crossing the iconic Bixby Bridge, and taking in breathtaking coastal views. We wrapped up the day with a well-earned bite and drink at the Big Sur River Inn. There, we struck up conversations with some locals—now friends—who shared their favorite spots, the best ways to experience the area, and stories that gave us a whole new appreciation for this incredible coastline.

The next day, we went all in—hiking Partington Cove, hugging ancient redwoods, and seeing so much of the wildlife! Even two migrating Whales just offshore!

Later that day, one of our new friends offered to take us to Pfeiffer State Park (Buses/RV’s were not permitted on any access road at the time). We couldn’t have asked for a better way to experience it. We watched the waves carve through the legendary Keyhole Rock, walked on the unforgettable purple sand, and ended the day with a few Abalone Shells—a true Big Sur treasure.There’s nothing quite like seeing a place through the eyes of the locals.

To top it all off, we ended our Big Sur adventure with one of those simple yet unforgettable moments—good food, great company, towering redwoods, and that unbeatable campfire smell that lingers just enough to remind you of the experience. So grateful.

Now, we’ve landed in Monterey Bay, already gearing up for the next adventure—and, as always, excited to keep sharing the journey with you!
